STATE COLLEGE — The Tussey Mountainback, a series of footrace events held in central Pennsylvania’s Rothrock State Forest, has announced that the Centre Region Down Syndrome Society will be the beneficiary of the Mountainback’s events in 2024.
“We are thrilled and honored to be chosen as the named beneficiary of the 2024 Tussey Mountainback events,” said Anne Marie Rodgers, who on Feb. 1 becomes director of the Centre Region Down Syndrome Society. “The Mountainback’s support will be instrumental in helping us to reach and involve more individuals and families in our community.”
The Centre Region Down Syndrome Society is a hands-on organization that gives individuals with Down syndrome and their families the tools, resources and support necessary to participate in, contribute to and achieve personal health and fulfillment. CRDSS serves families throughout the central PA region, with a majority in Centre County. Their services are focused on health enhancement, social connection, family support and advocacy.
The Tussey Mountainback’s signature events are the 50-mile ultramarathon and team relay event that are held in October. This year’s main events will take place on Oct. 25–27.
The Mountainback also hosts several other events throughout the year. A series of free races called the Tussey Teasers occurs on different parts of the Mountainback’s 50-mile loop course between Feb. 3 and June 23. Later, an eight-week group run series called the Discovery Training Series covers the entire 50-mile loop a portion at a time in the course of eight Saturdays, from Aug. 31 to Oct. 19.
