“We’ve played two really good games back to back and are firing on all cylinders,” P-O coach Joe Matson said. “Our defensive players did a great job tonight, as did our offensive attack. We’re getting better, and hopefully we’re ready to make a bit of a run. I’m proud of our girls. They play hard and are working well together. This was a great team win.”
The Lady Mounties (34-3) were scheduled to host Huntingdon on Sept. 21 and Bald Eagle Area at 10 a.m. on Sept. 23.
LADY EAGLES GO 0-3
The Bald Eagle Area girls team lost three games in a week, falling to Hollidaysburg, 2-1, on Sept. 11 at home; to Bishop Guilfoyle, 2-0, at home on Sept. 13; and at Central, 3-2, in overtime on Sept. 18.
BEA’s Sybil Thompson scored BEA’s only goal against the Lady Golden Tigers off an assist from Heidi Eveleth at 2:25 in the first half. Hollidaysburg scored two goals in the second half, including the game winner at 75:10.
BEA goalkeeper Makayla Spicer had 13 saves.
“We jumped out to a quick lead when Heidi found Sybil, and we played great defense in the first half to hold Hollidaysburg at bay,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “But in the second half, we gave up a PK (penalty kick), and it seemed to swing the momentum a bit in their favor.
“The defense was really tough, limiting their chances, and Makayla was great in goal for us, keeping us in the game. Hollidaysburg is a good team and unfortunately, we gave one up late.”
BG’s two goals came in a 22-second span, including a BEA own goal for the first goal at 31:39. Spicer made eight saves.
“We came out a little flat tonight and it cost us,” Moore said. “They were able to capitalize on some of our mistakes. We played well in the second half, and it looked like we would break through a few times, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.”
Adrienne Hacker tied the game, 1-1, with an unassisted goal at 55:20. Makenzie Bickle scored unassisted at 65:00 to give BEA a 2-1 lead. But Central scored at 73:50 and again in OT.
