PHILIPSBURG — Despite some trying and difficult conditions, the Philipsburg Elks Golf and Country Club held its annual Memorial Tournament over the June 27-28 weekend.
The players braved the elements and saw the tournament through and finished the two-day event late Sunday afternoon under improving weather conditions.
The tournament was played as a better-ball-of-partners in both men’s and women’s divisions with both gross and net scoring.
In the men’s Gross Division, the team of Jim Dixon and Matt Johnson shot a three-under par 137 to take first place in a field of 30 teams and 60 players.

Second place with a score of two-under 138 went to the team of Allan Herr and Jeff Herr, while Jake Lucas and Nate Lucas followed with a score of 141.
Carter Fischer and Nate Wood and Chris Thompson and Jared Anderson tied for third place at 143; Al Czap and Zack Czap and Johnny Harpster and Payton Guelich tied for fourth place at 144 and Jonathan Liptak and Robert Mitchell took fifth place with a 146.
In the Net Division, Allan Herr and Jeff Herr swept to the championship with a 16-under par 124, while Brandon Hahn and Kevin Hahn, Chris Thompson and Jared Anderson, and Jim Dixon and Matt Johnson followed with a tie for second place at 9-under, 131.
In the Women’s Tournament, Cathy Weitoish and Abby Showers won the Gross Division with a 171, and Carlie Waseleski and Jennifer Johnston took second place with a 184.
Daria Danko and Gabriele Healey finished third, and Macy Neideigh and Melissa Elliott took fourth.
Showers and Weitoish also won the Net Division with a 145, with Danko and Healey second at 146. Waseleski and Johnston and Neideigh and Elliott tied for third.
This was the final June tournament on the Elks’ schedule, and July will begin with the Osceola Open on July 3, the Flag Tournament on July 5, and Teeing off for T-Cells on July 10.
