What you need to know about the upcoming election

CENTRE COUNTY — Election Day is just one month away. Understanding different deadlines is important to ensure you are all set to vote. 

REGISTERING TO VOTE 

To be able to vote in Centre County, you must first register to vote. This can be done at pavoterservices.pa.gov/Pages/VoterRegistrationApplication.aspx. There, you will need to input personal information to confirm your identity.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 21. To check the status of your registration, visit pavoterservices.pa.gov/pages/voterregistrationstatus.aspx.

MAIL-IN/ABSENTEE BALLOTS

For those out of their city on Election Day, an absentee ballot can be used to still vote. Applications for an absentee ballot are also available for those with a disability or illness that prevents them from going to a polling site. 

A mail-in ballot can be requested by anyone registered to vote. You do not have to provide a reason for not going to the polls when requesting a mail-in ballot. 

The deadline for applying for a mail-in ballot and an absentee ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 29, by 5 p.m. Ballots must be returned either in person or date stamped via mail by Tuesday, Nov. 5.

You can return your mail-in ballots to Willowbank Office Building, 420 Holmes St. Bellefonte 16823 on Nov. 5. 

Additionally,residents can vote early with a mail-in ballot atthe Willowbank Office Building, 420 Holmes St. Bellefonte 16823. 

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 29, early mail-in ballots can be submitted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. up until Tuesday, Nov. 5.

ELECTION DAY AND POLLING STATIONS

In person voting will take place on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. Voters must arrive at their polling station between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. 

To find your polling station, visit centrecountyvotes.gov/voting/voting-locations.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE POLLING STATION

In Pennsylvania returning voters do not need to bring a form of identification with them when they come to vote. However, first-time voters and those voting at a new polling place must bring either a photo ID or a non-photo ID, the voter ID issued upon registering to vote is a valid form of identification. 

Along with this, voters are allowed to bring their voter’s guide into the booth with them when going to vote.
