CENTRE COUNTY — Howard kept rolling with wins over Spring Mills and Baseball U; Lewistown handed Spike Island its first loss.
HOWARD HAWKS WIN THEIR FOURTH IN A ROW WITH A 14-6 WIN OVER BASEBALL U
The Hawks scored nine runs in the first three innings against Baseball U on Thursday, June 12 and then capped their 14-6 win with another three in the top of the sixth.
Dan Cole hit a two-run double in the second inning, an RBI single in the first and another RBI single in the sixth to lead the Hawk offense.
The Hawks fell behind Baseball U 2-1 in the first inning, but they rallied for five runs in the second inning to take a 6-2 lead.
U made it 6-3 in the bottom of the inning, but Howard increased its lead to 9-3 on a two-run double by Bryan Greene and an RBI hit by Kahale Burns.
Ahead 11-6 going into the sixth inning, Howard settled the matter with three more runs on a single by Dylan Womer, a double by Cole and singles by Alex Gavlock, Parker Quick and Mikey Kresovich.
On the mound, Brayden Dubbs took the win with relief help from Burns.
In all, the Hawks collected 15 hits, led by Cole, who also knocked in four runs.
Womer and Kresovich also had two RBIs each.
Two days earlier, the Hawks held on for a 6-3 victory over Spring Mills in Spring Mills.
The Hawks had another five-run rally in this one, this time to take a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning.
The Braves, led by RBI hits by Colton Treaster and Miles Brooks, came back and closed to within 6-3 in the bottom of the third.
But from there, Howard pitchers Wyatt Kowalczyk and Ty Womer held the Braves scoreless, and the Hawks had their fourth win in a row.
Quick led the Hawks with two hits and an RBI in the game, while Womer and Greene each had a hit and an RBI.
The Hawks are now 6-1 for the season and in first place in the league.
LEWISTOWN RALLIES TO OVERTAKE SPIKE ISLAND, 8-3
The Lewistown FoxPro took a 3-3 tie into the top of the seventh inning and then rallied for five runs to take an 8-3 win over the Spike Island Pirates in Philipsburg on Wednesday, June 11.
The FoxPro scored two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game, 3-3 and then went on to take their fifth win of the season against just one loss.
The Pro’s Ethan Eichorn tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth inning, and then RBI hits by Eichorn, Evan Pupo and Isaiah Kearns sparked the game-winning rally in the seventh.
Kearns was the winning pitcher for Lewistown after going seven innings and giving up three runs on four hits with nine strikeouts.
Spike Island was held to just four hits, led by Ike Tiracorda and McGwire Heverly, who hit a fourth-inning home run.
The loss left the Pirates at 5-1 for the season, one-half game behind first-place Howard and Blanchard.
