NEW ORLEANS — The Philadelphia Eagles started the 2024 season much like they had ended their season in 2023, on average. Winning just two of its first four games, the Eagles looked in trouble of finding themselves fighting for a playoff spot again.
Instead, the opposite happened, despite the distractions that came with the Nick Siriani slander in the media, the Eagles rattled off 10 straight wins and were in the race for the No. 1 spot in the NFC.
Unfortunately, an injury to Jalen Hurts helped the Commanders beat the Eagles in week 16 and allowed the Detroit Lions to take the lead in the NFC and they never looked back.
The second place in the NFC saw the Eagles welcome the Green Bay Packers to the city of brotherly love.
In a very well-rounded game, the Eagles beat the Packers 22-10 in the Wild Card round. Saquon Barkley rushed for 119 yards, but it was two passing touchdowns for Hurts and three field goals from Jake Elliot that got the Birds their first win in the playoffs.
One week later, the Eagles took on the Rams at home again, pulling off another win despite the snowy weather. With the Commanders also winning, it meant an NFC East showdown in the NFC championship.
A highly anticipated game, thankfully for Eagles fans, didn’t end up being worth the stress. The Eagles broke the championship game record with 55 points thanks to seven rushing touchdowns.
Now the Eagles are set to face back-to-back Super Bowl champs, the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Though the Chiefs are sure to put up a good fight, the Eagles could easily take the title.
First off, the Eagles have Barkley who is one of, if not the best players in the league. There’s a reason he is one of the favorites to win AP NFL Most Valuable Player.
Barkley’s 2,005 yards lead the league, and his big play ability makes the Eagles’ offense one of the most explosive in the league. Barkley will no doubt be looking to make an impression in his first ever Super Bowl, it’s time for the former Nittany Lion to get the trophy he deserves.
While there are still questions about who will be starting at center in the big game, the Eagles offensive line has long been elite.
Even in the absence of Jason Kelce, this line has the ability to take over a game. Just look at the NFC Championship, the Eagles rushed for seven touchdowns. George Karlaftis and Chris Jones are vital for the Chiefs defense. If the Eagles can shut them down, it will be a long day for Kansas City.
The Eagles’ defense is scary. It starts with Jalen Carter on the defensive line but extends to the exciting rookies in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
If there is one defense that can shut down Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, it is the Eagles. While it doesn’t scheme the same way, the Eagles 2024 defense is built similar to the Buccaneers team that is still the only team to beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
