STATE COLLEGE — The YMCA’s Mobile Feeding Bus, the Travelin’ Table, was on-site on Saturday, March 1, for the “Pack the Bus” event hosted in partnership with Stuckey Mitsubishi as part of the Y’s Anti-Hunger Program. Members of the community brought non-perishable food items to help fill up the bus.

The Y is a nonprofit committed to providing students with the resources they need to succeed. The organization does this by bringing people from different backgrounds together.

“Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y is dedicated to giving people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity,” the YMCA’s website noted.

The event was part of the YMCA’s Backpack Program, an initiative providing nutritious meals to students in Centre and Clearfield counties. The bus will provide two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and two snacks in each backpack weekly so children can have food the days they are not in school.

Those who were unable to attend the day of the event are encouraged to still donate to the county’s children in other ways.

Stuckey Mitsubishi and all Stuckey locations in the county will continue to accept nonperishable donation items for the backpacks. Along with this, each location will also have a Special Backpack Cookie Jar, where people can make monetary donations.

Currently, the Y provides backpacks of food to all Head Start programs in Centre and Clearfield counties. Along with this, they provide backpacks to six charter schools and nine school districts.
