Closings and Cancelations Announced with Ice and Snow Moving Through the Area

Centre County is under a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. Thursday through 1 p.m. Friday, and the wintry mix of precipitation is causing closings and cancelations.

Rain is expected to change over to freezing rain and sleet on Thursday night, with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain beginning early on Friday morning, according to the the National Weather Service.

NWS forecasts snow and sleet accumulations of up to an inch and ice accumulations of a tenth to a quarter of an inch. AccuWeather predicts 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet with a quarter inch to a half inch of ice.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation urges motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.

Here’s a look at the delays, closings and highway restrictions announced as of Thursday evening.

Penn State has canceled all in-person classes at University Park after 6 p.m. on Thursday and all day on Friday. Only employees performing essential duties to maintain campus operations should report. Activities beginning after 5 p.m. on Friday will be held as scheduled.

State College Area School District schools will be closed on Friday. The day will be made up on April 18. The State High boys basketball game scheduled for Friday night at Harrisburg has been postponed until a date to be determined.

Bellefonte Area School District will have a flexible instruction day on Friday. All district buildings will be closed and students should login to their Google Classroom to get directions and assignments from their teachers on Friday morning.

Bald Eagle Area School District will have a flexible instruction day on Friday. All school buildings and offices will be closed.

Penns Valley Area School District will have a flexible instruction day on Friday.

• Several Mount Nittany Health locations will open at noon on Friday: Mount Nittany Physician Group practices, lab and imaging services at physician group locations, Mount Nittany Health Breast Care Center, Sieg Neuroscience Center, Center for Wound Care, including Diabetes Foot Clinic and Orthotics, Pain Management Program, Cancer Care Partnership and medical center outpatient programs.

Mount Nittany Health Surgical Center and Mount Nittany Medical Center, including the emergency department, endoscopy services and the COVID-19 test collection site will remain open.

Penn State Health facilities in the State College area will be closed until noon on Friday.

Centre Volunteers in Medicine will be closed on Friday.

Centre Safes office will be closed on Friday. Its 24-hour hotline (877-234-5050) remains open.

Schlow Centre Region Library is closed on Friday.

All Centre County Library and Historical Museum branches are closed on Friday.

Discovery Space is closed on Friday.

• All YMCA of Centre County branches will open at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Centre County Government offices will open at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

• PennDOT is implementing vehicle and speed restrictions for highways around Pennsylvania on Thursday and Friday, including Interstates 99 and 80 and Route 322. Check 511pa.com for up to date information on road conditions and restrictions.
