Russell Frank’s columns for StateCollege.com won first place in the column-writing – non-daily category of the 2021 Society of Professional Journalists Keystone Pro Chapter Best in Journalism contest. The winning columns: On the Waterfront, a Mysterious Fate; Hakuna Matata in Thessaloniki; The Names of the Lost. A collection of Frank’s columns, titled “Among the Woo People: A Survival Guide for Living in a College Town,” is available from the Penn State University Press. Frank is a member of the journalism faculty at Penn State. Before launching his academic career, he worked as a reporter, editor and columnist at newspapers in California and Pennsylvania. He is, by academic training, a folklorist (Ph.D., UPenn), which means, when you strip away the academic jargon, that he loves a good story. Joe Battista has been an integral part of the Penn State and State College communities since 1978. He is best known for his effort to bring varsity ice hockey to Happy Valley and in the building of Pegula Ice Arena. “JoeBa†is the owner of PRAGMATIC Passion, LLC consulting, a professional speaker, success coach, and the vice president of the National Athletic and Professional Success Academy (NAPSA). He is the author of a new book, “The Power of Pragmatic Passion.†Joe lives in State College with his wife Heidi (PSU ’81 & ’83), daughter Brianna (PSU ’15), and son’s Jon (PSU ’16), and Ryan (State High Class of 2019).

He has spent his last 30 years in service to international students, helping them with personal, cultural and spiritual adjustments to America.
