Back in the early spring, Jackie Huff set an ambitious goal of knocking on every door in the State College Area School District. In case you weren’t home when she knocked on yours, I’d like to take a moment to introduce her to you. Jackie moved to State College from Texas where she served as a public-school math teacher. While her move to State College saw her transition from the high school classroom to post-secondary education, her calling to the classroom inspired her to run for SCASD board of directors.
Because of her time teaching in an underserved school comprised of low-income families, Jackie uniquely understands how essential the access to resources is to a teacher’s mission of educating students. Her efforts on the school board will center around ensuring that teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff are equipped to meet the needs of student in our school district.
Jackie is also a natural leader serving to organize canvasing efforts to get out the vote for all candidates in the Centre region. She has spent this fall away from her husband, Greg, and their three elementary school-aged children while walking and knocking doors in all of our district’s neighborhoods.
As a teaching professor within Penn State’s School of Engineering Design, Technology and Professional Programs, she works firsthand at developing STEM curriculum that can be adapted for high school students. She knows how to prepare our high school students for future academic success. I can’t think of a more well-rounded candidate to serve on our school board. Simply put, teachers know what our students need, and it’s time our school board includes someone with public education experience. Jackie’s time as a teacher will be immensely valuable to the district board of directors.

Jackie Huff would bring a teacher’s perspective
I would like to take a minute to tell you about State College Area School Board Candidate Jackie Huff, why I am casting my vote for her and why you should too. Jackie is running for SCASD School Board because, to paraphrase her words, she is an educator, a mother and, most importantly, has the experience of a public school teacher.
When elected, Jackie will be the only member of the SCASD Board of Directors with public school teaching experience. Having taught in a financially distressed district and managing the challenges that face disadvantaged schools and communities, Jackie recognizes the resources available here in State College. She is driven to employ those resources thoughtfully and equitably to ensure all students throughout the district are set up for success.
In addition to her impressive credentials, Jackie is an active listener, a thoughtful problem solver, a caring empath, and passionate about every one of her many roles. I have no doubt she is the right choice for SCASD School Board. I urge to you to join me in voting Jackie Huff on Nov. 2.
