Alice V. Saxion, 83, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 9, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born on December 3, 1940, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Sappick) Simco. On July 21, 1962, she married her beloved husband, Samuel J. Saxion, who survives at home, having celebrated over 61 years of a happy and loving marriage. They were blessed to become the proud parents of two daughters.
Alice was a 1959 graduate of State College High School. After school, she went to work for Penn State in Human Development until her retirement in 2001.
In addition to her husband, Samuel, she is survived by their two daughters, Jacquelyn Carpenter of Pleasant Gap, and Audrey Weinberg (Ken) of Brunswick, Maryland, grandson, Wesley Carpenter, granddaughter, Shannon Taylor (Steve), and great grandchildren, Allie Carpenter, Aelyn Carpenter, and Emily Taylor, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Charles Carpenter, two brothers, Edward and Richard Simco, and sisters, Helen Witmer, Anna Jane Walk, Elizabeth Heimbach, and Mary Becker, and their respective spouses.
Alice was an active member of St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters, having served on several committees. Always looking to serve her community in various ways, she volunteered for numerous years at the election polls and different charity events. After her retirement from Penn State, she enjoyed traveling both in the United States and abroad. She also enjoyed bowling and playing golf where she was a long-time member of the Penn State ladies golf league. She especially looked forward to weekends with her daughters and family get-togethers with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 10-11am, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte. Mass will be held at 11:00 am at the church with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte.
