Betty Louise (Hartswick) Detwiler, 102, of Pleasant Gap, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Springfield Crossings in Springfield, PA. Born on October 18, 1921, in State College, she was the daughter of the late Frederick William and Bess (Lingle) Hartswick. On January 5, 1946, in Winchester, Virginia, she married her beloved husband, Donald Gustavis Detwiler, who preceded her in death on February 9, 2004, after sharing 58 years of marriage together.
Betty was a 1939 graduate of State College High School. She went on to graduate from Potts Shorthand College (Goodwin School of Business) in 1940. She worked as a secretary for the PA Department of Assistance for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her three children, Gary Brian Detwiler of Phoenixville, PA, Vickie Rae Detwiler Organtini (Joseph) of Springfield, PA, and Lynn Barry Detwiler of Lynns town Bellevue, WA, four grandchildren: Melissa Booth (William) of Havertown, PA, Nicole Betesh (Ben) of Lafayette Hill, PA, Heather Laziuck (Brett) of Cockeysville, MD, and Mitchell Detwiler of Phoenixville, PA, and six great grandchildren: Jack and Owen Booth, Koby and Jordyn Betesh, and Emily and Avery Laziuck. Also surviving is a sister, Winifred Strohlein of Front Royal, VA.
Betty was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church. Additionally, she was a member of the Pleasant Gap American Legion Post #867 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved cover bridges and acquired quite the collection over the years. She also enjoyed reading and canning fruits and vegetables.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
