Beverly Jean Martin, 82, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born June 1, 1942, in Pensacola, FL, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Alice (Norred) Sweeney. On October 19, 1963 she married Johnny David Martin, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two children, Scott Martin of State College, and Kim Blose (Jason) of Smyrna, DE; three grandchildren, Kara (Rainny), Joshua (Summer), and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Wyette, Kaylyn, and Luna; and a son-in-law, Lou Baker. Beverly was preceded in death by her daughter, Tonya Martin Baker and her brother, William Sweeney.
Beverly attended Pensacola Junior College and Sacred Heart Catholic School of Nursing. As President of her class, she became a Registered Nurse in 1962. She worked in the operating room at Sacred Heart Hospital for a year until she married Johnny, who served in the Navy. Once they were married, they moved to Germany where they were blessed with two of their three children. Upon their return to the United States, Beverly stayed home to raise Tonya and Scott and they were blessed with their third child, Kim. After her children were in school, she went back to work at Centre Community Hospital in the Labor and Delivery Department. She also enjoyed selling Avon Beauty products and helping with brownie and girl scout troops.
Her family meant more to her than words can say. She loved singing to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and holding and loving any baby she would see. She was a beloved friend and family member to all who knew her. Her caring and kindness for others made everyone feel like they were family. She was another “mom” to many! Beverly was a member of Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending her time playing cards and traveling, as well as getting together with her Bridge group and Nursing group of friends.
