Charles David Vaughn, 81, of Port Matilda, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was born October 13, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Charles Edward and Mae Coral (Watkins) Vaughn.
Charles graduated from State College High School in 1961 and served in the United States Army from 1964 – 1970. He married the love of his life, Beatrice J. Lawrence, in 1967; they remained married until his passing.
Charles was a vendor and distributor for Pepperidge Farm for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Woodycrest United Methodist Church, where he attended since 1992. He enjoyed gardening, attending yard sales, listening to rock ‘n roll music – his favorite artist being Elvis Presley – hunting, traveling and spending time with his furry friend, Lovee. He loved his family, friends, community and church family.
Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Dreese and nephew, Steve Way. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beatrice; three daughters, Melissa Swartz (Kevin) of Red Lion, PA, Kimberly Wern (Kenneth) of Angier, NC and Lisa Shelow (Dave) of Cary, NC; three grandchildren, Camden Wern, Gwendolyn Wern and Hanna Swartz and a host of loving church family and friends.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 10:00am – 11:00am with a funeral service, officiated by Dr. Renee Ford, immediately following at 11:00am at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. Interment will take place at Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to Woodycrest United Methodist Church, 219 W. Clearview Avenue, State College, PA 16803.
