Dean E. Butler, 87, of rural Bellefonte, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Dean was born in Liberty Twp., Centre Co. on October 11, 1933, the son of the late Joseph and Freda McCartney Butler. 
On April 21, 1955 he married Nancy L. Smith (Butler) who survives at home. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Karen)Butler, Jeanne Butler, Shawn (Renae) Butler and Shelley (Paul) Patrick all of rural Bellefonte. He is also survived by his brother, Roy (Lemoyne) Butler of rural Bellefonte; his sister, Nancy (Robert) Rhoads of rural Bellefonte; his grandchildren, Scott (Jodi) Butler, Samantha Sheckler, Cameron Sheckler, Rylee Butler, Ray Hosterman and his great grandchildren, Jadyn Butler, Madysn Butler and Sydni Shirk. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Butler, Paul Butler. As well as his sisters, Theo Kieth, Leola Poorman, Josephine Shawley, Lillian Crissinger and Sandra Gayle Alters.


Dean served his country proudly in the U. S. Navy from 1953 to 1957. Dean started his civillian career as a lineman for West Penn Power, then he went on to be a heavy equipment operator for Confer Coal Stripping. For the greatest remainder of his career, Dean was self-employed in various trades to include masonry, logging and landscaping.  Dean also drove bus for Fullington Bus Co. He was a member of the Bald Eagle Valley United Methodist Church and a member of the Milesburg American Legion Post 893. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, boating, camping and coaching girls softball. He enjoyed numerous hunting trips to Colorado and Montana and fishing trips to Canada.


Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family, and Deans final resting place will be in Schencks Cemetery, Howard Twp., Centre Co.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 201 Spring Street, Milesburg.
