Edna L Hurley, 91, of Carlisle PA passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022 at UPMC Carlisle with her family by her side. Born March 2, 1931 in Mt. Holly Springs she was the daughter of the late Clarence Thomas and Blanche Walters Thomas.
Edna retired from the former Carlisle Hospital and had been a Girl Scout leader for Troop 518 in Bloserville. She made the most of her life by traveling by RV to 49 of the 50 states, only missing Hawaii. Her trip of a lifetime was a 3 month motorhome caravan tour in Alaska. Taking many cruises she was able to visit many Caribbean islands and ports in Canada and New England. She and her daughter explored New Orleans, Boston and Salem during several pre-cruise stays.
Edna was an active member and a volunteer at the Big Spring Senior Center in Newville where she enjoyed time with the Lunch Bunch and many friends. She was an avid crafter, always on the lookout for new ideas to try. She completed many counted cross stitch projects, including all the US National Parks. She also enjoyed all kinds of jewelry making, especially earrings and made many crochet items for friends and family and to donate. Sewing was another passion along with her love for reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Heckard (Perry), four grandchildren Melissa Calvanelli (Michael), Stephen Heckard (Melissa), Michael Adams (Mandy) and Jennifer Nace (Derrick), 6 great grandchildren Ryan, Samantha, Dylan, Shannon, Sydne and Brycen. She is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Livingston and Sarah Varner and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents Edna was predeceased by her son, Stephen, in 1976 and her daughter, Bonnie Adams in 2021.
There will be no viewing. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28 at Westminster Cemetery, 1159 Newville Road, Carlisle PA 17013
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edna’s memory may be made to the Big Spring Senior Center, 91 Doubling Gap Road, Newville PA 17241
