Letterman, Sr. and Mary (Schaffer) Letterman. He was married to his beloved wife, Rose (Bonfatto) Letterman, who survives him at home.
Elmer was a 1955 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. After school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from August 1955 until he was honorably discharged in April 1959. He worked as a fabricator for Chemcut for 17 years until his retirement.
In addition to his wife, Rose, he is survived by his three children, David Letterman (Sherri), Robin Walter (Bob), and Rick Letterman (Jen), six grandchildren: Nicole Hane (Chris), Michele Shaffer (Chris), Bobby Walter, Gina Walter (Nate Smith), Curtis Walter, and Rachael Letterman-Plitt (David), and four great grandchildren: Cameron Hane, Jordan Hane, Luke Shaffer, and Anna Shaffer. Also surviving is a brother, Greg Letterman (Susie).
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a brother.
Elmer lived by the motto, “If you can envision it, you can do it.” He embraced technological advances and loved learning how to use them in his own daily life. He was very artistic, and if he was able to envision something, he could make that come to life! He enjoyed traveling and adventuring to new and old places, with Assateague Island being a favorite throughout the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at his home, 651 Matilda Avenue, Lemont. Following the service, burial services with full military honors will be held at Boalsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elmer to 365 Hospice at 220 Regent Court, State College, PA 16801.
