Franklin B. Lykens, age 79, of State College, passed away on October 21, 2024 in State College, Pennsylvania. Born on January 29, 1945, in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, the son of George W. Lykens and Mary E. (Bennett) Lykens. He married Patsy J. Slates on August 5, 1965, who survives him.
Frank was drafted by the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. Upon his return, Frank took a job with the United States Postal Service, working in various positions, and serving his coworkers for a period of time as union president. He ultimately became the Postmaster of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, in 1993 and retired from the postal service in 2000. Frank later volunteered at Mount Nittany Medical Center until 2020.
Frank was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. Frank was an elder of his church, New Beginnings in State College. Frank deeply enjoyed time with his family and friends, dispensing sage advice whenever needed. Frank especially enjoyed spending time with his pastor and friend, Chester Marshall.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his children, Sheri L. Wardle of Bel Air, Maryland, and Scott L. Lykens, of State College, Pennsylvania, his grand-children Alexander, Cole, Ben, Ashton, Melissa, and Kira, and his siblings George W. Lykens, of Nogales, Arizona, Earl Lykens of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Nellie Lykens, of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Kenny Lykens and Raymond Lykens. Frank is deeply loved by his family.
Friends will be received on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home at 1034 Benner Pike, State College. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm. A meal will be served after the memorial service.
