Geraldine Catherine Baker, known affectionately as Gerry to all who knew her, lived a life that was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the love she shared so generously. Born on June 9, 1948, in Spangler, PA, Gerry’s journey through life was marked by her deep compassion and dedication to helping others. Her light shone brightly until her peaceful passing on November 15, 2024, at Hershey Medical Center.
Gerry’s story is one of true commitment and service, both to her family and her community. She was the beloved wife of Paul R. Baker for 54 years and the cherished mother of Aaron D. Baker and his wife Amy, and Julie M. Heverly and her husband Phil. Her role as a grandmother to Jackson and Logan Heverly was one of her greatest joys, and the love she held for her family was the cornerstone of her existence.
The path of Gerry’s professional life was a reflection of her caring nature. After graduating in 1969 from the Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a registered nurse. For 42 years, Gerry devoted herself to the well-being of her patients across several hospitals in Pennsylvania, including Philipsburg State General Hospital, Altoona Hospital, Centre County Hospital, and finally Mount Nittany Medical Center, from where she retired in 2010. Her hands and heart worked in unison to bring comfort and healing to those in her care.
Gerry’s interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Victory Church, where her faith-filled nature found its spiritual home. She loved attending her grandsons’ sporting events, where she was their biggest fan. Gerry’s love for her beloved dogs was boundless, and she found joy in the simple pleasures of shopping, gardening, bird watching, and working on puzzles. Each of these activities was an extension of her loving and kind character, as she found beauty in the simple things in life.
To describe Gerry as faith-filled, loving, and kind is to capture the essence of her being. She was a source of unwavering support to all who were privileged to cross her path. Her life was a series of moments spent uplifting others, whether it was through her nurturing presence as a nurse or the gentle guidance she provided as a wife, mother and grandmother.
