Gilbert L. Fye, 74, of Pine Glen, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Born on February 10, 1948, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Glenn L. and Freda B. (Schmoke) Fye. On September 9, 1967, in Moshannon, he married Gloria J. McCloskey, who survives at home. 

Gilbert attended the Bald Eagle Area High School. He was a member of the Moshannon United Methodist Church. He was enlisted in the Army Reserves for eight years after high school.

Gilbert was the sole proprietor of Fye Logging & Veneer Inc. for 46 years, starting his business in 1975 and worked continuously until his health started to decline. His business allowed him to travel both throughout the United States and abroad.

Gilbert was a member of the Clarence American Legion, Post 813 and the Clarence Moose Club 1565. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and had a huge passion for sprint car racing.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria, three children: Michelle Barnyak and her husband, Shane, of Pine Glen, Shawn Fye and his wife, Deanna, of Pine Glen, and Meghan Fye and her companion, Rob Onder of Moshannon, and by a brother in-law, Harry Shaw of Snow Shoe. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Wyatt Barnyak, Carrie Fogleman and her husband, Douglas, Dillon Barnyak, and Lucas Fye.

Along with his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by one brother, Paul and his wife, Alice (Conway) Fye, and two sisters: Doris Fye and Alice Shaw.

Public visitation will be on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 11a.m. until 1p.m. at the Moshannon United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Gilbert will be laid to rest with full military honors in Askey Cemetery in Snow Shoe Twp.
