Harry D. “Oozzie” Shaw, Sr. of Snow Shoe, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Born on June 17, 1933, in Snow Shoe, he was the son of the late Neil and Bertha (Rasdorf) Shaw. On October 19, 1954, in Snow Shoe, he married Alice I. Fye. Alice passed away on June 2, 1971. He then married Ruth A. Fye on June 27, 1975, in Snow Shoe. Ruth passed away on July 27, 2019.
Harry was a 1952 graduate of Snow Shoe High School, it was the last class to graduate from Snow Shoe High. He attended Penn State University in Drafting and Design for one year. He enlisted in the US Army on May 27, 1953, and received his honorable discharge on May 19, 1955. He earned the rank of PFC (T) . He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal for his years of service. He was proud and honored to serve in the United States Military. He was an inspector at Cerro Copper and Brass, retiring in 1996 after 34 years of service.
Harry was a member of the Moshannon United Methodist Church, where he was a Certified Lay Speaker, taught Sunday School for many years, lead many bible studies, and served on the church board. He held a firm belief in God and lead many people to his Savior, Jesus Christ. He read his bible every day.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America before becoming a Scout Master of Troop 60 in Snow Shoe, where he served several years. He enjoyed working in his garden, woodworking, hunting, fishing, and spending time at Treasure Lake. He liked playing cards, especially 500 every night with his wife, Ruth and other family members.
Harry was proud of his family and all their accomplishments. He looked forward to Sunday dinners with the entire family. He treasured all time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Harry is survived by his three children: Harry D. Shaw, Jr and his wife, Charity; Belinda L. Smitchko and her husband, Bill and Wanda S. Hoover and her husband, Rod, all of Snow Shoe, and one brother, Lesley Shaw and his wife, Betty, of Pleasant Gap. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wives, Harry was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles, Harold, and Jenkin and by one sister, Margaret Halsnik.
Public visitation will be on Monday, February 6, 2023, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Full military honors will be given at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the Askey Cemetery.
