Janet E. Hoover (Fisher), 90, of State College, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 8, 2025. Born in Boggs Township, on March 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Ida (Fulton) Fisher. On February 19, 1955, she married the love of her life, William B. “Bill” Hoover, who preceded her in death in July of 2024.
Janet graduated from Bellefonte Area High School in 1953. In the 80’s, Janet earned her accreditation in medical record keeping and processing. She spent 37 years working at Centre Community Hospital in their Medical Records Department, before retiring as the head of the department.
Janet was a member of the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church in Lemont. At one time, she was a member of the Eastern Stars and Amaranth. She also belonged to the Pleasant Gap Women’s Club for many years. She was an avid fan of Penn State Football and the Pittsburgh Pirates. She liked to spend her free time reading, shopping, completing wordsearch and crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a kind, caring, loving, faithful woman who made epic cherry pies and fudge. Her love for her family was as fierce as her faith in God. She will forever be remembered and cherished by her family and friends.
Janet is survived by three children, Carole L. Hoover and her husband, Gordon, of Lancaster, Stephen W. Hoover and his wife, Beverly, of State College, and Wayne B. Hoover and his wife, Pam, of Port Matilda; four grandchildren, Jill, Brenda, Leslie, and Danielle; two great grandchildren, Soraya and Tristan; two brothers, Ken Fisher (Bernice) and Jack Fisher (Joyce), both of Bellefonte; three sisters, Helen Webster of Florida, Marjorie Dann (Gerald) of West Virginia, and Frances “Judy” LaCavera (Nat) of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by four siblings, Richard Fisher, Carl Fisher, Lois Fisher, and Susan Mollela.
A Celebration of Life will be held sometime in October at the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church and those details will be announced when available. She will be laid to rest privately with her husband at Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E Branch Rd, State College, PA 16801 or to the Breast Cancer Coalition, 2397 Quentin Road, Ste B, Lebanon, PA 17042.
