John W. Lowery, Sr., 91, of Nittany Valley Drive, Bellefonte, PA; passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.  He was born on April 10, 1933 in Mingoville, PA; a son of the late Sherlock and Esther (Dunkle) Lowery.  On June 20, 1953 he was united in marriage to the former Marjorie (Sampsel) Lowery. 

Along with his wife of seventy years he is survived by children Linda Dutrow married to Barry; John Lowery, Jr.; Diane Snyder; Mike Lowery married to Beth; Brian Lowery married to Dona; Jody Lowery; Sue Peters married to Troy and Christine Doster; sister Elaine Hastings and brother-in-law Ken Dietz; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, one great-niece and two great-nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by sister Janet Dietz and brother-in-law Ron Hastings.

John was a graduate of the Bellefonte High School Class of 1951.  He spent all of his working years working on the family farm as well as Dunkle and Grieb John Deere Dealership. He was a member of the Dairy Farmers Association, Grange Hall, and The United States Bowling Congress as well as the Zion Community Church.  He enjoyed roller skating, camping, and spending time at Raystown Lake and water skiing. He was also a longtime season ticket holder for Penn State football games.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Singer-Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 West Main Street, Howard, PA 16841 from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Singer-Kader-Neff Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Brown officiating.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the hospice nurses with the Centre Home Care and Jody Lowery for the excellent care they gave their father.
