Lois E. Rhoades, 91, of Bellefonte, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. Born on May 21, 1933, in Boggs Township, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Mona B. (Murray) Davidson. On November 12, 1955, in Philadelphia, she married Thomas A. Rhoades, who preceded her in death on July 23, 2008.
Lois was a proud 1951 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. In 1980, she earned her LPN degree from Centre County Vo-Tech. While she briefly worked in the Nursery department at Centre Community Hospital, Lois dedicated much of her life to her family as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Wingate Faith Global Methodist Church, where she found great joy in supporting the church community.
An avid reader and a talented crafter, Lois found peace in crocheting and refinishing woodwork and furniture. She also drove a school bus for several years, leaving a positive impact on the children she transported. Lois’s true passion was preparing homemade meals for her church’s fundraisers, such as potpie, soup, and pies were her specialties. She poured love and care into these endeavors, relishing the time spent preparing for these events.
Lois is survived by her children: Karen L. Moore (Fred) of Bellefonte and Kevin L. Rhoades of Shapleigh, ME; two grandchildren: Brian L. Moore of Dauphin and Erin M. Moore (fiancé Derek Raybuck) of Bellefonte; and three great-grandchildren: Thomas, Leonidas, and Gabriel.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by three brothers: George Davidson, Richard Davidson, and Murray Davidson. Lois was the last surviving member of her generation.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Milesburg, with Pastor Ron Baker and Pastor Samantha McElwee officiating. The burial will take place at New Union Cemetery, Union Township.
