Lynn Allen Poole, 82, of State College, died Friday, October 11, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born October 11, 1942, in Westover, he was the son of the late Dallas and Trudell Young Poole. On October 19, 1963, he married Ruby Gale Saylor, who survives. Lynn and Ruby were married for 60 years.

He is survived by two children, Amy H. Garbrick and her husband, Donald F. Garbrick, of State College, Daniel S. Poole and his partner, Robert Adsit, of Madison WI; two siblings, Carol Pearce and her husband, Bob, of The Villages, FL, Sam Poole and his wife, Sharon, of Los Molinos, CA.

Lynn has two grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Jimmy Hughes, of State College, and Jackie Hughes, of Boalsburg. Lynn has four great-grandchildren, Octavia-Joy Za, Judah Don Lynn, Jasper Alan, and Calista Jane. Lynn greatly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All children and grandchildren graduated from Penn State.

He was a 1960 graduate of Harmony High School, Westover. Working on a 100-cow dairy farm inspired Lynn to use his strong intellect and pursue his education.

Lynn received an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Penn State University at Altoona Campus in 1962, a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University in 1967, and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University in 1972.

Lynn worked for Bell Labs in New Jersey, IBM in New York, and at the Applied Research Lab (ARL) at Penn State. He retired in 1997 from ARL after 30 years working for Penn State. Lynn taught at Penn State in the graduate program in Acoustics. Lynn held over 11 patents in acoustics and engineering, numerous papers, and the credentials of Professional Engineer (PE). Lynn owned a professional consulting business since 1978, L.A. Poole Engineering.

Lynn enjoyed hunting and wildlife photography. He and Ruby made numerous trips driving their truck camper to Alaska and Yellowstone to take photos of the mountains and wildlife, especially grizzly bears, elk, and bald eagles. 

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.

The Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Christ Community Church of State College, 200 Ellis Place, State College, with Pastor Mitch Smith officiating.

The burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Westover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community Church of State College, 200 Ellis Place, State College, 16801 or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
