Madeline G. Shivery, 96, of Bellefonte, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Wynwood House Personal Care Home in Boalsburg. Born on October 22, 1928, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Anna (Clemens) Harter. On March 29, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Guy C. Shivery, who preceded her in death on May 6, 2000, after sharing 46 years of marriage together.
Madeline was a 1944 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. She worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for McClanahan’s for over 25 years until her retirement in 1990. After retiring, she went to work for Jackson Hewitt as a tax preparer for 10 years.
She is survived by her children, Trudy Breneman of Pleasant Gap, and Amy McMurtrie (Ralph) of Bellefonte, three grandchildren, Michael Brooks, Randall Brooks, and Andrew McMurtrie, and three great grandchildren, Avery McMurtrie, and two additional great grandchildren. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Daniel Brooks of Florida, and a sister, Nancy Knoffsinger of Zion.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Brooks, and siblings: Ruby, Dorothy, Eva, Edna, Ralph, Sr., Nevin, and Roy.
Madeline was a life member (and oldest member) of the Zion Community Church. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, including Alaska! She was an exceptional bowler and an avid reader.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at noon, at the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Burial services will immediately follow at Zion Cemetery.
