Mary Deutsch, a vivacious spirit and generous kind-hearted soul passed on March 28, 2025 after complications from an unexpected accident.
Up until the week of her death she was living her life to the absolute fullest as she always had. Anyone who knew her knows she enjoyed staying active; whether it be biking 60 miles a week with her husband, Frank, going for long walks, creating art, or playing with her great grandchildren. Mary definitely did not like to sit still!
What some may not know about (because she was unassuming and humble) was her acts of kindness and generosity that she did without anyone looking. She was someone who lit up the room as well as the hearts of the people in it. Her love and friendship had no bounds. She had friends in their teens all the way up to 100. She made everyone from all walks of life feel welcome and at home in her presence. There are simply not enough words to express how wonderful a person Mary was. Her legacy will truly live on in those who were blessed to know her and reflect her values. She brought so much joy, light, love, laughter, and compassion to all. While still alive, Mary wrote a note (which we only found after her passing) “In lieu of flowers, please honor Mary’s life by practicing random acts of kindness for others” That simple but powerful wish of hers speaks volumes about her character.
A visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, PA 16801.
A memorial service will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Grays Woods Blvd, Port Matilda, PA 16870.
A celebration of life gathering will be held immediately following service at Tom Tudek Memorial Park, 400 Herman Drive, State College, PA. (*Mary wanted an outdoor space for friends and family to be able to meet and share stories of her life in a casual setting)
