Nancy Kay Hughes, 84, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Sunday, March 24, 2024. Born on October 13, 1939, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late John “Jack” E. and Eleanor (Harshbarger) Taylor. On June 10, 1961, she married the love of her life, Marvin “Bill” William Hughes, who preceded her in death on December 9, 2016, after sharing over 55 years of marriage together.

Nancy was a 1958 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She was a Homemaker for many years. Once her children attended school she worked in various positions. The positions she enjoyed most throughout the years include G.C. Murphy and Bellefonte Elks Club. She retired in 2001 when her youngest granddaughter was born.

She is survived by her three children, Ruth Ann Heitzenrater (Donald) of Garrettsville, Ohio, William “Bill” Hughes (Diane), and Kathie Hughes Alterio, both of Bellefonte, and three grandchildren, Erika Lyn Hartman, Heather Nicole Hughes, and Kaitlyn Leigh Alterio. Also surviving are her siblings, Edward Taylor, Linda Barndt (Terry), both of Bellefonte, and Terry Taylor (Vickie) of Port Matilda, and nephew with whom she shared more of a brother relationship with, Bobby Whitehill, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Bill, and parents, Jack and Eleanor, she was predeceased by a brother, John Taylor, and sisters, Judy Taylor and Vickie Whitehill.

Nancy had the kindest heart and loved spending time with the most important people in her life. She loved her kitty “Bo” and had many dear friends whom she adored. Through all of Nancy’s years her favorite thing was spending time with her husband Bill, the pair loved socializing and going on gambling trips, she was constantly entertained by him. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her is well aware that she was the funniest, strongest, most genuine and caring woman. She enjoyed attended St. John Lutheran Church.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Will Osman officiating. Burial and the graveside service will immediately follow at Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
