Anna M. Ostacavage Macario, formerly of Minersville, died on Aug. 3, 2010, after a brief stay at the Hearthside.

She resided in Bellefonte for the past eight years. She was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Minersville, the daughter of Joseph C. and Domonika (Prokopczyk) Ostatkiewicz. She was married to Joseph C. Macario who preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1975. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters – Josephine Ostatkiewicz, Sr. Mary Michael, Bernardine OSF, Winnie Stein, Joseph Osty, Angela Siemanis, Frank Ostacavage, Eva Ostatkiewicz and Tillie Gyursco.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Marian Veuleman, of Louisiana, and a brother-in-law, Stephen Gyursco, of Bellefonte. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, including her niece Deborah Bezilla of Lemont who took care of her.

She spent the majority of her life in Minersville working side-by-side with her husband at Macario's Restaurant and Tavern. Together they sponsored many sports teams in softball, bowling, and Little League. She also worked in the Domestic Relations Office for Schuylkill County, retiring in 1992. She was an active member of the Minersville Women's Club, the Minersville Public Library, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Mount Carmel Area Polish Club and the Schuylkill County Polish Choraliers. She was also an active fundraiser for her church while living in Minersville, formerly St. Stanislaus (now St. Matthew the Evangelist).

There will be a viewing at Butler Funeral Home, Sunbury Street, Minersville, from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 9, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, Spruce Street, Minersville. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery at the convenience of Fr. Leo Maletz. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 East Bishop Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
