Arlene M. Mayes, 87, formerly of Milesburg, died on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Hearthside Nursing Center in State College.

Born on Jan. 31, 1922, in Spring Twp., she was the daughter of the late Robert (Diddle) and Hattie Pardoe Hendershot. On June 24, 1982 in Warriors Mark, she married Leonard D. Mayes, who preceded her in deathon July 29, 2003. She was a graduate of State College High School. She worked for Matternville School from 1955 to 1982. She then worked at Delta Tau Delta Fraternity from 1982 to 1989, and had farmed in Yarnell from 1982 until her retirement.She also cooked for the Penn State Football Team. She was of the Protestant Faith. She enjoyed gardening, canning and spending time with her favorite niece, Shirley Kline.

She is survived by one son, Charles L. (Cindy) Breon II, of Warriors Mark; one daughter, Virginia (Jim) Hunt, of Va.; and six grandchildren, Donna, Frank, Christy and Clint Breon and Brian & Shawn McDonald. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Fanny Breon; and two brothers, Clarence and David Hendershot; and four sisters, Freda Bilger, Elsie Dobson, Mertle Houtz and Dorothy Mayes.

Friends will be receivedon Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 from 6 – 8 p.m. at The Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg. Services and Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg.
