Arthur von Krogh Anderson, Jr., 82, died March 19, 2016 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA.

Born on January 8, 1934, in State College, Arthur was the son of Arthur Sr. and Edith Huntington Anderson. He graduated from State College High School in 1951. He earned a B.A. in Architecture from the Pennsylvania State University in 1956 and an MFA in Architecture from Princeton in 1958.

Art is survived by his wife, the former Anne Gjesdahl, also a State College native, whom he married in 1958. Also surviving are three children: Christopher, of State College; Stephen, of Flagstaff, Arizona; Amy of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and five grandchildren (Emilie, Arthur, Ryan, Mia, Aiden). He was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Barbara Schick, Mary Hilton, and Rebecca Morgenson.

Art began his architecture career in 1958 with a private firm in Northfield, Minnesota. He began his teaching career at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he taught from 1964 to 1973. In 1973 he returned to Penn State, where he taught in the Architecture Department for 28 years, retiring in 2001. In 1987 he was awarded the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Art’s entire life was devoted to his love of teaching, including two sessions with the Semester-at-Sea program ; a year at Natal University in South Africa; a semester at the Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and a year at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Art continued his architectural pursuits after retirement with projects in and around State College, including courses in the OLLI program.
