Betty Jane Smith, 93, of State College, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Juniper Village at Brookline.
Born on May 13, 1923 in Beech Creek, Clinton County, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Virginia I. Smith.
Betty was an animal lover who especially loved dogs.
She graduated from the State College Area High School where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. She continued her education at Penn State University. She attended for two years then relocated to Harrisburg; she then served as an Air Traffic Controller at the Middletown Airport during WWII. After the war she started working for the Penn Harris Hotel as an Executive Secretary; she retired after 40 years of service.
Betty is survived by two nieces, Dorothy E. Winter and her husband Harry of Ann Arbor MI; Amanda J. Cox, of State College; three nephews, Everett C. Cox II of State College, Shrive L. Cox of State College, Wertney G. Cox; two great nieces, Tami C. O’Connell and her husband Dan of Elkton MD, and Mackenzie Cox of State College.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy V. Cox and a Brother-in-law, Everett C. Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to any animal rescue charity of your choice.
