Bill W. Martin Sr. ,89, of Bellefonte passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017. His spirit is no longer strapped to a frail body. Death is swallowed up and devoured….by victory.
Bill Sr. has been a rock to his family, completely devoted to steering each one to succeed and make wise choices. He was a self-made man in the business world. In his 50s he went to college. He was always improving himself, reading, thinking, keeping up on technology to the very end.
This generation of men just made the rest of us feel safe because they have so much courage, that can-do attitude. What a good solid man in so many ways. What a man, husband, father, papa, great grandpa, father-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle. You served your family well.
Born in Wake Forest, West Virginia he was the son of William Bryan Martin and Edith Wilson Martin. Bill Married Nellie Kinser on September 24, 1955, who survives him in Bellefonte. Bill was a 1946 graduate of Chapmanville High School and a 1984 graduate of the Baldwin Wallace College with a B.S. in business. He served in the U.S. Army earning an Army Of Occupation, Medal, Japan, and WWII Victory Medal. From 1984 to 1993 Bill was the General Manager and Vice-President of the Cerro Metal Plant in Bellefonte.
Bill is survived by one son, Reverend Bill W. Martin, Jr. (Cindy) of Moreno Valley CA. and one daughter Mia Martin Confer (Todd) of Centre Hall. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Wesley Martin, Carrie Jacobs (Adam) Cameron Confer (Michellea), Hannah Davis (Jeremy) and Lisa Confer. 3 great- grandchildren. Ellis Confer, Paige Confer, and Millicent Confer. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jo Collins of St. Paul Mn.
Visitation will be held Saturday January 21, 2017, from 1-2 PM. at Wetzler Funeral Home, Bellefonte PA. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00PM.
