Carl H. Long Jr., 79, of Spring Mills, departed from this life on Monday, April 5, 2010, surrounded by his loving wife and family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Carl, son of the late Carl H. Long, Sr. and Jodie S. Duck Long, was born on May 2, 1930, in Potter Township, just east Centre Hall. He was a 1948 graduate of the Gregg Twp. Vocational School. On Feb. 3, 1951, he married the love of his life, Leotta M. Yearick in Madisonburg. Mrs. Long survives at their home in Spring Mills. Carl was a well known building contractor in Penns Valley and he called himself a gentleman farmer. He was a member of the Gregg Township Fire Co., The Nittany Antique Machinery Association and the Elks Country Club. Carl enjoyed many activities including, hunting, fishing, camping with family, both outdoors and at the Grange Fair. He also enjoyed restoring antique tractors, both red and green. Carl was an avid bowler and enjoyed making various woodworking items for his children and grandchildren. Carl enjoyed spending time at his hunting cabin and summer home with his family and with "Dottie" his faithful canine companion.

He will be sorely missed by those who loved him and called him friend. In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by two daughters, Beverly D. Henninger (Gary), of Elizabethtown and Carla M. Brungart (Dale), of Spring Mills; four sons, Kevin D. Long (Donna), of Lexington, N.C., Curtis W. Long (Joni), of Dillsburg, Kermit L. Long (Lori) and Brian C. Long (Lois Hassinger), both of Spring Mills; grandchildren, Kyle and Angela Henninger, Darren and Nathan Brungart and Derek, Cara, Aaron, Bryce, Ethan and Nicolette Long. Also surviving are great grandchildren; Logan, Lilly, Andrew and Chase.

In accordance with Carl's wishes there will be no public viewing, however, family and friends will be received on Friday, April 9, 2010, from 1-3 p.m. at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. Funeral services will follow immediately with Rev. Nathan Pile officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim. Memorial contributions in Carl's memory may be given to the American Cancer Society , 123 S. Sparks Street, State College, Pa. 16801.
