Carol Ann Myers, 71, of Howard, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Born on May 29, 1941, in Bellefonte, she was the youngest child of the late Clyde & Gladys Glenn Johnsonbaugh. After her father’s death, she and her mother moved to Mill Hall. When her mother passed away, Carol lived with her sister, Virginia.
Carol is a 1958 graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School. Carol married Jerry DeLaney in 1959. Their daughter, Diane and her husband, Bill VanGorder live in Mill Hall. In 1964, she married Glenn L. Myers who survives in Howard. Their son, Glenn, Jr. and his wife, Barb, survive in Spring Grove, Pa.
Carol worked for the Centre Community Hospital for 31 years, retiring in 1997. She served in a number of areas, most notably as the switch board operator. She was a member of the Howard Christian Church and led the junior choir in her younger years. Carol was a member of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society and was the reigning Queen.
Carol enjoyed knitting and crafts. She and Glenn loved camping and traveling and since Glenn’s retirement, they were seldom seen without each other. They have shared many tears and joys as well as failures and successes. Her biggest joy was spoiling her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren; Alethea (Mark) Cella, Mike Houser, and Andy, Colin, and Morgan Myers, and great grandchildren, Jacob Edwards and Callie May Cella.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles “Chas” Johnstonbaugh, Clyde “June” Johnstonbaugh, Liza Myers, and Virginia “DeeDee” Myers. Carol was the last of her generation.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 6-8pm and Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 1-3pm at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 135 W. Main St, Howard. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 3pm at the funeral home with Pastor Charles W. Salmon officiating. Burial will be at Schenck’s Cemetery, Howard Twp.
