Carol R. Heckman (Barner), 64, of Hublersburg passed away from dementia on December 17 at her home of 36 years in Hublersburg. Born January 19, 1950 in Lock Haven, Carol grew up in McKeesport, PA where she graduated from Westinghouse Memorial High School in 1967. She attended Duff's School of Business in Pittsburgh before returning to Central PA. Carol retired from Supelco in 2010. Prior to working at Supelco she had worked at as a tax preparer, a teller, and as a homemaker. Carol had many arts and crafts interests over the years, from crocheting and sewing to stained glass, she was always in a creative mode. Carol was an avid Penn State Football fan and was an active participant in several online Penn State sports message boards and tailgates where she was always quick to help others with finding tickets, and places to stay & things to do when traveling from out of town. Her kindness and smiles will be long remembered by everyone who knew her.
Carol is survived by her husband, Carroll G. Heckman whom she married in 1970; her two sons, Guy (Angela) Heckman of San Antonio, TX and Wayne (Nicole) Heckman of Mingoville. Carol is also survived by her parents, Mahlon 'Wayne' & Christine Barner and her sister, Kitty Strouse of Clintondale; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles & Sarah Heckman of Hublersburg. She had one grandson, Nathan Lydic-Heckman, and two step granddaughters – Briauna & Amari Salazar. Carol is further survived by a large loving extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a memorial service held at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hublersburg on Monday, December 22 at 6:30pm, Pastor Ann Graves officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s and Aging Research Center in Carol’s name would be appreciated.
