Chester F. Taylor, 89, of Salem Hill Haven, passed from this life on January 17, 2014 at The Hearthside. Born on August 11, 1924, Chester was a son of the late Orvis and Adella Kerstetter Taylor. Because of physical issues at birth, Chester was placed in the Polk State Center in 1933, then transferred to Selinsgrove in Feb 1954 where he remained until he was transferred to the Laurelton State Village in 1964. Chester then lived there 12 years before coming to Skills in State College in 1976. He made one final move to Salem Hill Haven in July of 2002, where he remained until his passing.
Chester was a happy go lucky fellow. You could hear him coming down the hall ringing the bell on his walker, with the basket full of stuffed animals. He enjoyed making bead necklaces and wearing many of them. Chester visited the Senior Daily Living Center weekly and loved attending the Beacon Lodge Camp for a week every summer. One of his very favorite activities was going out for lunch where he would always order meat loaf and macaroni and cheese. He is the last of his family; however, over the years, Chester adopted many of the employees at Skills, Salem Hill Haven and M.H.M. R. as family. Everyone loved him and he loved them back..
A memorial service for Chester will be held at 2:30 on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Salem Hill Haven in Spring Mills. He will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim. Contributions in memory of Chester may be given to Salem Hill Haven, 424 Heckman Cemetery Road, Spring Mills, Pa. 16875.
