Clair J. Rohrbaugh Clair Joseph Rohrbaugh, 88, of Bellefonte, formerly of York, died peacefully with family surrounding him at Center Crest, in Bellefonte, Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Clair was born in Porters Sideling, PA on February 19, 1924, a son of the late Joseph A. and Lida (Danner) Rohrbaugh. Known by friends and family as Joe, he lived with his son's family in Bellefonte, PA, since 2010. Surviving Mr. Rohrbaugh is his wife Mary; who also resides with their son Christian E. Rohrbaugh and his wife Judy A. of Bellefonte; five grandchildren including Scott C. Rohrbaugh, of Silver Lake, Ohio; one sister Anna C. Rohrbaugh of Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA; and many nieces and nephews including his niece Susan R. Rohrbaugh of Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA; and one of his closest and best friends Jay Snelbaker of Manchester, PA. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Wayne J. Rohrbaugh and daughter in law Phyllis (Leonard) Rohrbaugh; a sister Velma (Rohrbaugh) Day, and two brothers Norman A. and Daniel A. Rohrbaugh. Joe attended Hanover High School, Hanover, PA. He grew up on the family farm near Hanover, PA loving farm life and speaking about it often with fond memories, especially relative to his horse Bill and their trips delivering fresh milk from the farm. World War II brought a new challenge and change to his life when he enlisted in the Army in 1943. As a World War II veteran, he attained the rank of sergeant in the medical corps, in the Pacific theater, serving as a sergeant medic, assisting field surgeons in the 86th Army Field Hospital on Okinawa. Upon his return from WW II, he worked on the family farm until 1948; when he married his wife Mary E. (Revay) Rohrbaugh. Also, in 1948 he moved to York and began a 38 year career at Cooper Industries, formerly Campbell Chain Co., where he worked as a fire welder and later as a supervisor, retiring in 1986. He was an excellent pool player and enjoyed working around the house, mowing the yard, playing with his snow blower and spending time with his family. At his request there will be a private service for immediate family with burial at St. Peters Lischey's Church of Christ, Spring Grove, PA.
