Derek Reed, 76, of State College, passed away August 8, 2010, at his home.
Born March 3, 1934, in Ashington, England, he was the son of the late Frederick George and Janet Anderson Reed. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Flawell) Reed, whom he married on New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 1959.
Throughout Derek's life he achieved the rank of Sergeant in the British Armed Forces. After leaving the army, he built a career as an accountant in the coal mining industry. Derek was a great soccer player, tournament chess player, pool shark and Mr. Home Remodeling and Improvement Extraordinaire.
Having said all that, Derek's number one priority in life was that of a devoted husband, loving father and grand dad. Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Simon Reed and his wife, Candace, of Ocala, Fla., a daughter, Justine Powers and her husband, Michael, of State College; six grandchildren, Abigail, Alexander and Adam Reed, of Ocala, Fla., and Hannah, Jacob, and Isabella Powers, of State College. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond Reed and a sister, Bernadene Familton and her husband John, all of Northumberland, England.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Pastor Bryan McNally officiating.
