Donald Ray Hackenberg, 80, of Milesburg died peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2012 in Bellefonte at Centre Crest Nursing Home surrounded by his family. He was born in Bellefonte on March 6, 1932 the son of the late Charles M. and V. Faye Reese Hackenberg. He as a member of the Shiloh Lutheran Church. He was a Mason/Supervisor at Cerro Metal Products. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Centre Squares, volunteered at Centre Peace, Inc. and was an avid hunter, bowler and woodworker. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. He was a 1950 graduate of Bellefonte High School. On July 16, 1954 he married the former Kathryn Gearhart (Hackenberg) who survives at home. He is survived by one daughter, Diane Marie (Terry) Gates of Runville; two sons; Donald James Hackenberg and his fiancee, Selena of Milesburg and Dennis Ray (Linda) Hackenberg of Julian. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Jodie Gates Cain, Adam Hackenberg, Terry Gates, Jr., Kayce Hackenberg and Donald J. Hackenberg II; and five great grandchildren; Tenley Gates, Laela Harry, McKenna Gates, Garrett Cain and Alex Cain. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Hackenberg Durham and one brother, Ronald Glenn Hackenberg. Services will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg, Pa. at 11:00 A.M. with Lay Speaker, Steve Koths officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Burial will be in Advent Cemetery, Boggs Twp., Centre Co. Military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or Centre Crest Volunteers, 502 E. Howard St., Bellefonte, Pa. 16823. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg, Pa.
