Donald E. “Donnie” Moore, of Spring Mills, passed from this life on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. He was 84. Born on June 28, 1931 in Bowmanstown, Donnie was a son of the late Rev. Marlin E. and Viola M. (Spotts) Moore.
Donnie proudly served his country from 1952 –1954 during the Korean War as an ammunition specialist in the U. S. Army. He transported ammunition to the front lines, many times over treacherous mountain passes at night or under enemy fire. After he returned from the Army, Donnie married Rosella Mae Zerby on July 17, 1954. She survives her husband. In addition to his wife, Donnie is also survived by one daughter, Felicia Shultz of Spring Mills; two sons, David E. Moore, also of Spring Mills, and Russell D. Moore and his wife Janette of Howard; three granddaughters, Jody Haupt and husband Tom of Coburn, Angela Homan and husband Jaime of Spring Mills, and Alison Terhorst and husband Ryan of Runville. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Donnie was employed at the former Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven. He quit there to go into full time dairy farming and farmed till he retired. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting, bass and trout fishing and especially bowling. He had a unique sense of humor and loved to agitate people.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening October 6th from 5 – 8 pm at the Penn’s Valley God’s Missionary Church, 109 Evergreen Lane in Spring Mills. The funeral will be held at the church on Wednesday morning at 11 am with Pastor Steve Davis officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded at the church. Donnie will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Unionville at a later date. Contributions in memory of Donnie may be given to Resident’s Fund, Centre Crest Nursing Home, 502 E. Howard Street, Bellefonte, Pa. 16823.
