Donald James Tressler, 82, of State College, died Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born December 1, 1932 in State College, he was the son of the late Wilbur Carl “Spike” and Margaret Theresa Mitchell Tressler. He married Marcile Althea Fisher on June 17, 1956, who survives at home.

He is survived by his brother, Robert L. Tressler and his wife Jean of New Holland; and brother in law Barry Fisher (Patti) of State College and the following nieces and nephews:

Peggy Zentner (Charles) of Venice, FL.; David Zentner (Pamela) of State College; Michael Zentner (Courtney) of Boston MA; Joshua Zentner (Jessica) and their children Joshua Thomas and Julia Marie of Cornwall, PA.; Donna Loesch of State College; Amy Burkholder (Bradley) of Reinholds, PA.; Robert Tressler II (Lori) their children Stephanie, Robert III, and Alissa of Bristol, PA.; James Tressler (Kelly) and son Benjamin of Reamstown, PA.. Don is also survived by a long time special family Muchen Lee, husband Joe Verica, and their daughters Maria and LeAnn Verica. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley L. Loesch.

Don was a 1951 graduate of State College High School. He received his Bachelor’s in Accounting from Penn State University in 1960. Don served in both the United States Army and Air Force graduating from Officer Candidate School 3rd Battalion 11th Infantry Regiment in 1954. He was also a graduate of The Air War College and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Major General in June of 1984. In 1993, he was inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame. He was the recipient of numerous accommodations and medals for his military service.

After being hired in 1962, Don served as Bursar of Penn State University until retiring in 1989 after 27 years of service.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church for over 60 years and the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge No.700 for 58 years. Don was also a member of The PA. Society Sons of the American Revolution where he recently served as a Centre Co. Chapter President as well as the State President in 1995. Don was also a member of Rotary International Club of State College for 60 years where he served as a past President of the State College Evening Club as well as a past District Governor.

Don enjoyed spending time with his wife and family at their farm in Spring Mills.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Visitation will also be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 10-11am. Funeral service will follow with the Reverend Scott Schul officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hall cemetery. A luncheon will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Harkens Hall following the grave site service.
