Edwin H. Rudolph, 93, of Centre Hall, died Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Wynwood House in Centre Hall.

Born July 5, 1918 in Queens, NY, he was a son of the late George and Dorie Rudolph.

On June 6, 1948 in Queens, NY, he married Doris Freitag, who survives in Centre Hall.

Edwin was a WWII army veteran, where he served 31 months of his 3 ½ years in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal.

After 44 years of service, he retired from the New York Life Insurance Company in 1980 as the Executive Assistant to the President in the Office of Corporate Responsibility. After moving to Centre Hall in 2003, Edwin became a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Spring Mills.

Ed was a wonderful, caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was honest, dependable, giving and a straight shooter – firm yet compassionate. He loved to laugh and make others laugh.

Ed was also an avid mystery reader and a die hard NY Mets fan. He was a great American who loved his country.

In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by his two sons, Robert G. Rudolph and his wife Elizabeth of Staten Island, NY and Richard H. Rudolph and his wife Amy of Centre Hall; and four grandchildren, Brianna, Christian, Lauren and Michael Rudolph; nieces, Sr. Judy Rudolph and Laura Walter, and a nephew, Stephen Rudolph. He was preceded in death by brothers, George and Howard; and a sister, Dorothy Brumberger.

Friends will be received from 2-5 PM, Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Centre Hall. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m., Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the funeral home with the Reverend Nathan Pile officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Edwin’s name may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church, 119 Cobblestone Court, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
