Elsa Catherine Lisle, 95, of State College, died May 7, 2009, at the Fairways at Brookline Village. Born June 30, 1913, in Clark County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Edward Jouett Lisle and Murty Armstrong Lisle.
Elsa graduated from the University of Kentucky in Chemistry 1936 and earned her Masters in Library Science from Columbia University. Elsa was a librarian at Penn State for thirty years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the University Baptist and Brethren Church in State College, the American Association of University Women, and the Philadelphia Horticultural Society. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. In 2005, Elsa donated a conservation easement to ClearWater Conservancy to conserve natural beauty and the environment in the State College area.
She is survived by three nieces, Brenda Lisle Falkowski and her husband, Ed, of Mt. Pleasant S.C., Sandra Lisle Young and her husband, William, of San Diego, Calif., and Jeanene Florence and her husband, Melvin, of Nicholasville, Ky.; three grandnieces and six grandnephews, including Richard Falkowski and Lance Falkowski and his wife, Linda and their daughters, Gabrielle and Livia, all of State College. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Spencer Lisle and sister Frances Mahoney.
A memorial service for Elsa will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the University Baptist and Brethren Church with Rev. Bonnie Kline Smeltzer officiating.
