Elwood “Woody” Brower, 64, of Bellefonte, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
He was born in Chester on September 21, 1949, the son of the late Elwood and Catherine Burns Brower. He married the love of his life, the former Penny Hackett Brower on June 14, 1986. She survives at home.
Woody was a 1967 graduate at Saint James High School in Chester. He enlisted in the US Air Force in January 1969, and was deployed in the Vietnam Conflict in 1970, and again from 1971-1972, and was discharged in March, 1973. He worked at many jobs. He was employed at Wal-Mart in the maintenance department before his retirement.
Woody was a member of Milesburg American Legion Post 893, he was an avid pool player. He was a member of Tuesday night Centre County Pool League and Thursday night 3 man 8 Ball League. Woody was an avid sports fanatic, Eagles and Phillies fan. He loved to sing and play his guitar at church, camping, and spending time with his family and friends. He attended the Locust Grove Bible Church in Lower Georges Valley Road, Spring Mills.
He was blessed by two children, a son, Hank (Lindsay) Brower, of Felton, Del. and a daughter, Glenna M. Bookmiller, of Julian. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Cheyenne M. Bookmiller, Levi R. Brower and Olivia M. Brower. He is also survived by two brothers, Mike (Mary) Brower, of Victor Mont. and Patrick (Chris) Brower, also Victor Mont.; and two brother-in-laws, Glenn A. (Kim) Hackett, Jr., of Howard and Charles W.(Patty) Hackett, of Milesburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his strong and courageous mother-in-law, Mary E. Hackett.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 13, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at The Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Covalt officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the services.
