Ernest L. "Ernie" Henninger, 70, of State College, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born May 12, 1939, in State College, he was a son of the late Roy A. Henninger and Verna Bickle Henninger. On Feb. 7, 1963 he married Joyce Waltz, who survives at home.
He was a 1957 graduate of State College Area High School. He had worked as a car salesman. Ernie served in the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania. Ernie was of the Protestant faith and a member of the G.W.R.R.A., an avid motorcyclist and NASCAR fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mardi (Robert) Hockenberry, of Petersburg; two sons, Craig (Kelly) Henninger, of Bellefonte, and Scott (Wendy) Henninger, of State College: five grandchildren, Michael, Corie, Sara, Danielle, and Rachel; one great granddaughter; and one sister, Rosalie Hoy, of Pennsylvania Furnace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael, and a brother, Gerald.
There will be a public visitation Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. at Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend David Spaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Centre County Memorial Park, College Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may me made to the Centre Crest Auxiliary Fund, 502 E Howard St., Bellefonte, PA 16823.
