Frank J. Kolasa, 89, of Clarence, passed away on Tuesday, September 01, 2015 at the Clearfield Hospital. Born on November 8, 1925, in Clarence, he was the son of the late George A. and Anna V. Taras Kolasa. On October 20, 1948, in Hagerstown, MD, he married Margaret A. “Margie” Koleno, who survives at home.
Frank attended the Clarence School. He was a member of the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Church in Clarence. He was a member of the Snow Shoe VFW Post #5644.

Frank was enlisted in the US Army during WWII. He earned the qualification of a rifleman and then Sharpshooter. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded on February 19, 1945 during the European Theater. He also received the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal for his service.

After being discharged from the service, Frank went to work in the Pennsylvania Forestry Department. He retired as a Fire Warden after many years of service.

Frank enjoyed working on the family farm in his younger days. He was a hard worker all his life, providing the best he could for his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Frank is survived by his wife; daughter, Wanda M. Barnyak and her husband, John, of Frenchville; and brother, Andrew Kolasa of State College. Also surviving are his four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Frank was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-8pm with a Rosary service at 7:45pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11am at the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Church, 102 Church St. Clarence with Father Mark R. Reid officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarence with full military honors by the Clarence American Legion Post#813 Honor Guard and the Snow Shoe VFW Post#5644 Honor Guard.
