Gerald A. Mulderig, formerly of Kingston, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at The Fairways of Brookline in State College after a brief illness.

Born in Inkerman on April 14, 1919, Gerald was the son of the late Patrick and Rose Scherer Mulderig. He graduated from Jenkins Township High School at the age of 16. During World War II, he served for 37 months in North Africa and Italy in the Transportation Corps of the U.S. Army. Gerald joined the International Typographical Union in 1952 and began employment at the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company as a printer in 1954, working first for the Wilkes-Barre Record and later moving to the staff of the Times Leader Evening News in 1963. When new ownership at the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company forced unionized workers from their jobs in 1978, he became one of the founding members of the Citizens' Voice, where he worked until retiring in 1984.

Gerald was an avid collector of model trains and an enthusiastic professional baseball and college basketball fan, but the welfare of his immediate and extended family was always his highest priority.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July; son Gerald, of Chicago; son Robert and daughter-in-law Karen Garman, and grandchildren Patrick and Emily Mulderig, all of Washington, DC; daughter Maureen and son-in-law, Michael Johnson of State College, and step-grandchildren Jennifer Johnson, of Ottawa, Canada and Bryan Johnson, of State College; and many nieces and nephews.
