Obituary of Gertrude Gearhart, 98

Gertrude A. Gearhart, 98, formerly of Milesburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Centre Crest. Born May 13, 1914, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Julia C. Woomer Gill, Sr. Her husband, George H. Gearhart, whom she married Nov. 21, 1933, preceded her in death on May 22, 1981. She was a clerk at Pattee Library at Penn State University. Gertrude was a member of Milesburg Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Milesburg Senior Citizens, The Purple Heart, and she was involved with numerous church activities and needlework. She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn L. "Kitty" Hackenberg, and Sandra G. Benner, both of Milesburg; one son, George E. Gearhart, of Port Richey, Fla; one brother, Harry D. Gill, Jr., of State College; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladis O. Reese; three brothers, Harold Gill, Michael Gill, and Philbert Gill; and two sisters, Mary Dennis, and Gladys Hess. Services will be on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Milesburg Presbyterian Church, 103 Turnpike St., Milesburg with Rev. Barbara E. Mosch officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, Centre County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centre Crest Auxiliary, 502 E. Howard St., Bellefonte, PA 16823 or to Milesburg Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 837, Milesburg, PA 16853.
