Gladys June “Sis” Burnside, 85, of State College died April 1, 2017 at Hearthside Nursing Home in State College.
Born June 2, 1931 in Bellefonte she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dona (Markley) Jackson.
Gladys was a 1949 graduate of State College High School. She worked as head cook at the Autoport in State College for 38 years, retiring in January of 1995. In her early years she enjoyed traveling, fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Sis never played golf, but she loved to watch Tiger Woods play the game on TV. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends; especially her grandchildren, which she loved dearly.
Sis was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 779 in Centre Hall and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 9575 in Potter Mills.
Surviving is a daughter, Susan L. (Neal) King of Boalsburg; one brother, Donald “Joe” (Donna) Jackson of Thompsontown; and two grandchildren, Matthew (Laura) King of Souderton, PA and Krystal King of Boalsburg.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby, Edgar, Dick and Kenny Jackson.
Visitation with the family will be noon-2 PM, Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM at the funeral home. Internment will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
